Ready to begin the Journey?
Now, more than ever…
People are asking some of the most important questions of life as we face such uncertain times around the world. It is so important to process these current events and also the questions that come up in us, as we face time at home, isolation, and fear.
Alpha is a chance to ask these big questions and explore the Christian faith in a fun, non-pressurized environment. Each session includes a short film and a discussion where you can share what you think with a small group of people just like you.
First up, there’s
Food (for In-Person Alpha only)
All sessions start with a delicious (and free!) meal, because it’s a great way to connect, relax and build friendships.
The talks are designed to be engaging and inspire conversation. There are interactive sessions exploring the Christian faith. No pressure, no follow up, no charge. Usually around 30 minutes long, the talks explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions like “Who is Jesus?”, “Why and how do I pray?” and “How does God guide us?”
Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas about the talk without being corrected or judged. There’s no obligation to say anything; it’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective. Debate and explore. Be honest, be friendly, listen well.
Soon, St. Mary will offer an Alpha Course led by Fr. Andy. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Run over ten weeks, each session looks at a different question that people can have about faith and is designed to create conversation.
Alpha is a safe, non-judgmental, friendly, and welcoming space to explore life's big questions together. You do not need to have prior knowledge of any religion to attend, only a curious mind to learn more.
Join us for an awesome meal, an engaging talk and small group conversation.
What people are saying about Alpha...
Do I have to talk and share my thoughts?
No. You may remain silent the entire time if you wish.
How long is an Alpha session?
In-person Alpha Sessions last 2 hours. Virtual Alpha Sessions last 1.5 hours. They go by quickly. We start on time and always end on time.
How much does Alpha cost?
There is no cost, Alpha is free!
I am coming and will not know anybody else. Is that normal?
Yes. Most people come to Alpha without knowing anybody else in the course. By the end of the course, most people become good friends. Alpha is a great way to meet new people.
Can I just “come and see” for the first week?
Yes. Just register to let us know you’re coming (so we have enough food prepared for you).
What if I go for a week or two and don’t want to continue?
If you don’t want to continue after a week or two, no worries. We will not call you or bother you if you don’t come back.
Is childcare available?
Because of the pandemic and state restrictions, unfortunately, we will not be able to offer childcare. Pray the pandemic ends soon because normally, yes we offer free childcare.
For Virtual-Alpha, how will the virtual Alpha take place?
We will be using Zoom as our primary meeting space. When you register, we will contact you before Alpha starts to walk you through the zoom set up.
I have more questions. Who do I contact?
